Old Books with Old Truths
When Spirituality Becomes a Control System Instead of a Field of Consciousness
Throughout human history, so-called sacred books — such as the Torah, the Bible, the Quran, the Vedas, the Tripitaka, among others — served a vital function: organizing the symbolic in times of chaos, collective suffering, and the absence of institutional social protection. These texts gave meaning to death, fate, suffering, and created powerful myths that sustained entire civilizations for millennia.
Each of these books arose from a legitimate collective need: to maintain social cohesion, teach ethical boundaries, and create symbolic belonging. At many points in history, they were the only mechanisms of orientation, comfort, and hope. But what happens when these books — written for the past — are used today as fixed algorithms of control?
The Neuroscience of Belonging and Sacred Books
In our research, we define the Human Quorum Sensing (HQS) as the natural system of belonging — a kind of social echolocation based on affective signals, bioelectrical emotions, and stable feelings. From birth, human beings seek an affective safety field where they can form their Self.
Sacred books, when properly used, offered that field: they formed Regulatory Tensional Selves — identities that organized behavior and emotion in environments of scarcity and fear. But today, many religious groups use these texts as tools to freeze consciousness, transforming living beings with new DNA and neuroplasticity into repeaters of ancient dogmas, as if the world hadn’t changed.
Activated Consciousness: From Revelation to Manipulation
Consciousness is the movement that perceives itself within the produced metabolism. In more precise terms, inside the Damasian Mind — formed by interoception and proprioception — we propose the concept of Apus, representing an extended proprioception: the perception not only of the physical body but of the relational and symbolic space it occupies.
When we reference a point of Apus, we create a site of speech and a space of expression. That is being conscious: a situated, real, embodied consciousness with meaning rooted in the body.
However, in institutionalized religions and some political ideologies, this process is manipulated through repeated activation of symbols and beliefs, resulting in a state of Artificially Activated Consciousness.
Activated Consciousness is an emotional and narrative state lasting about 72 hours after intense stimuli (rituals, speeches, videos, prayers, slogans). If re-fed within that interval with similar stimuli, it remains active — generating dependency.
This is what we see today: beliefs like life after death, eternal punishment, or demonizing other religions act as symbolic drugs, activating consciousness continuously from early childhood to death. The person no longer references their body or present Apus — they live imprisoned in an external, colonized narrative.
The Economy of Faith: The Four Pillars of Religious Manipulation
Religious institutions, increasingly corporatized, rely on four pillars to keep consciousness activated and profitable:
Guilt – "You were born in sin."
Fear – "You’ll be punished if you stray from doctrine."
Desire – "You’ll be rewarded if you obey."
Belonging – "Outside of here, you are lost."
These pillars do not elevate consciousness — they imprison it. They are emotional shortcuts that hijack the individual's existential metabolism and keep them bound to an external symbolic structure.
DNA and Belief: Imposing Old Consciousness on New Life
A newborn has no guilt, fear, or dogma. Its DNA carries the potential for new connections and ways of being. But what often happens is that a rigid, dogmatic, guilt-based consciousness is imposed upon a forming body.
We call this the symbolic colonization of existential metabolism. Living DNA is used as a substrate to repeat ancient doctrines. And with continuously activated consciousness, the child grows up believing that obedience to the narrative is their only path to salvation or belonging.
Time Has Passed. Consciousness Evolves.
These books were important — and many of their teachings still carry symbolic or ethical value. But we can no longer accept them as unquestionable truths, especially when they serve to harm, control, or exploit.
The spirituality of the future (and lucid present) must be based on:
Direct experience and fruicão, not fear or blind obedience.
Consciousness integrated with body and territory, not promises of a postmortem paradise.
Care for the other in the here and now, not spiritual meritocracy built on suffering.
Education for perception, not training for judgment.
Conclusion: It is not the book that liberates. It is the body that awakens.
Old books have their place — as heritage of human experience. But when turned into ideological weapons or profit machines, they cease to be bridges to consciousness and become symbolic prisons.
If we want to raise new generations with healthy Tensional Selves, authentic Existential Metabolism, and a Fruitive Damasian Mind, we must urgently rethink religion’s role as a cultural interface.
It is time to let the body speak, let Apus emerge, let the soul vibrate (Pei-Utupe), and ensure that consciousness is no longer colonized — not by empires, nor by dogmas.
